About Shellie

I am a licensed Marriage & Family therapist and an Employee Assistance Professional with over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families.

I have extensive background in the treatment of addictions and compulsions (alcohol and drug, gambling, sex, technology) both in inpatient and outpatient settings.  I have worked in Mind-Body Wellness and Behavioral Health Education.  I provide career and life coaching assisted with as career and life transition.

Walking through the door is very big step towards change and most clients breathe a sigh of relief immediately after they have completed their first counseling session.  They find that opening up, while difficult is also remarkably easy.  Unresolved problems readily rise to the surface, and most clients find themselves feeling better and motivated to continue the process.

In the first session you can expect to develop a clear path to address your primary concerns both in the short and long term.  We will identify the primary focus, and identify immediate tools, interventions and coping tools that bring relief and facilitate change.

About Shellie:

I have been a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist for over 20 years.  Throughout my career I purposely chose to work with a variety of clients with some of the most challenging issues:  Addictions & compulsions, at-risk adolescents, homelessness, HIV/AIDS, LGBT issues, prison transition,

I am quite comfortable working with some of life’s most challenging issues such as illness, grief and loss, and critical incidents.  I am a practitioner of positive psychology and have worked in health education, mind-body wellness, tought stress management and meditation.  My background includes work in hospitals, outpatient settings, a university and a career center.

I am personable and easy to talk to.  I am an active therapist who is transparent and will tell you what I think.   I understand that clients are often eager for answers and solutions to their problems, or at least a sense of relief that can come from talking to someone who understands.

I aim to provide the solutions clients are looking for.   I educate clients about the tools of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).  I am strongly influenced by positive, and buddhist psychology.   I provide behavioral health education and coping tools such as mindfulness practice, mood management tools, and homework if you’d like it. I practice both short and long-term psychotherapy.
